Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English literature. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed which was based in Washington DC. Two years later she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
