She broke down the walls of the world of music by performing, singing and designer. She was an Mexican American performer who was traditional yet modern. She united both worlds and helped bring Tejano music into mainstream culture. Her name was rising who's tragic death threw it into turmoil. And as is common for a gifted, charming and young artist dies too soon and is buried, many mourned the greatness she was yet to reach. Her fans are working even harder to keep in mind what she has achieved. The tragic shooting death of Selena provoked a response from the Latino community that was similar to reactions following the deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena was a hugely loved singer by Latinos throughout North America. But her music was a hit with both the young and old. Selena may have been hailed by many as the Latina Madonna, but she is still a great character model. Selena's off-stage family values and involvement with AIDS awareness campaigns are exemplary.
